Mixing solutions for complex mixing processes
Although most powder mixing operations can be performed with relatively simple equipment, there is today a definite trend towards more complex mixing processes. In addition to blending components modern mixers also have to coat and granulate and more stringent standards are demanded by the market with regard to mixing quality. Products are frequently heat sensitive, high value and often not free flowing. With complex requirements come more complex buying decisions and when this is set against a drive for rapid results in increased throughput, or NPD and a desire for the fastest route into a competitive market the selection of the right equipment is even more crucial. Hosokawa Micron have a long heritage in applied mixing technology and are able to work with customers to advise on the most appropriate equipment and system integration.

Shampoo manufacturer doubles capacity with cost-effective impeller mixing technology
With less finance available, the ability to fund new equipment to increase manufacturing capacity has caused issues for many UK producers. The experience of the UK’s largest own brand manufacturer of hair products suggests that through close co-operation and using the expertise of a leading agitator producer such as EKATO, cost-effective solutions with short ROI periods are possible. Using an existing vessel and by upgrading the agitator assembly, Herb UK will see a return on its investment in under eight months, reduce energy consumption and solve product aeration issues.

Continuously operating in-line Greerco mixers from Chemineer are successfully handling a delicate dilution application in the manufacture of washing-up liquid by a company in Western Germany.
Equipped with a variable speed drive that adjusts to actual production capacity, the in-line Greerco mixers first carry out the dilution (with deionised water) of FAES (fatty acid ester sulphonate) with 70 % active matter, which is taken directly from the storage tank.

A new wide bandwidth active upconverting mixer, the LT5578 from Linear Technology, delivers high dynamic range performance from 400MHz to 2.7GHz, supporting all of the allocated LTE (Long-Term Evolution) broadband wireless services. At 900MHz, the mixer offers 27dBm Output IP3 linearity and best-in-class noise floor of -160.5dBm/Hz at an output level of -5dBm, enabling outstanding transmitter dynamic range. In addition, the mixer has 1.4dB conversion gain with integrated RF balun transformers that provide a single-ended RF output and LO (Local Oscillator) input to simplify designs while reducing external component count. Moreover, the device’s LO input is internally buffered, requiring a drive level of only -1dBm. This results in an outstanding LO-to-RF leakage of -43dBm.
